An artist is all I ever wanted to be...
Vivian S. Davis, Creative Director and Founder/Tutoring Art, an instructor, and an artist for more than 25 years. She grew up in Atlanta, Georgia, attended classes at the Atlanta College of Art, and started her career working as a Graphic Artist and Scenic Painter. Vivian dabbled in the early stages of video animation and, in 1993, won an Emmy Award for the computer animation title and intro of a documentary entitled, “Southern Bases.” Shortly after, she entered the hectic world of financial sales and marketing, and worked as a trainer/instructor where she discovered her passion for teaching. In 2007, she decided to devote more time to family and returned to working as a professional artist, instructor and program administrator. In 2008, Vivian founded the Arts Program with the Freedom Area Recreation Council (FARC), starting with just a couple of group lessons. Since then the FARC program has expanded to offer additional art classes by local and highly talented instructors. Over the last several years, she's designed and painted scenic backgrounds for local theater and vacation bible school, taught youth art classes in several mediums, and started the SYKESVILLE PAINTING CLUB.
"I thank God every day that he blessed me with a passion and a natural ability for the Arts which has led me to help others explore their talent so they can truly be proud of their accomplishments."
Wiley Purkey, a professional artist and instructor has been painting since age 13. His work is the end result of having been born in the Ellicott City Historic District, growing up in the the town as it experienced it's rebirth, and returning to paint the town and be part of it’s continuing history. He and Ellicott City and their journey together are inseparable, and it shows in his life’s work, his art. He works with watercolor, oil paint, egg tempera, chalk pastels, oil pastels, most kinds of drawing materials, and has recently turned some attention to making constructions out of re-purposed materials, and the Historic District of Ellicott City remains his favorite subject. As an instructor for Tutoring Art's wine and painting programs, Wiley Van Gogh (as we fondly refer to him as) will surely help you loosen up!
